This morning after the election, I read a couple of really good articles on the disrespectful treatment of President Bush. Please go read them for yourself here and here. I know probably many won’t because of election fatigue or you don’t want to hear anything good about Bush because he’s “the worst President in history” or whatever.
As I have said, I have not agreed with President Bush’s policies all the time, but I do think that he is genuinely a good person and has done his best in a difficult time period in our country’s history. The thing that most people don’t seem to understand is that a President’s legacy is kind of like the NFL draft….you can’t really rate how well teams did in the draft until a few years have gone by so you can look back on the drafter players’ performances. A President’s legacy is the same way…..you can’t really judge it while it’s happening…..you have to give it a few years to see its effect on history. People like to criticize Bush constantly but I’ll put this question to you…..would you have wanted to be President for these last eight years? I highly doubt many people will answer “yes” to that question.
But here is something that Obama supporters should really think about…..how will the Bush bashing from the “McDonald’s Fast Food Mindset” public and the ultra-liberal media (I dare anyone who watched any of the major-network coverage of the election last night to try to contradict me that the media is completely biased to the far left) hurt Obama? Here’s what I mean……I want to give Obama a fair shake. I really do. But I know that the aggravation I’ve felt over the completely over-the-top disrespect shown to our current President by Hollywood morons, the biased media, and a public that seems to think that our government consists of one branch rather than three will lead me to scrutinize Obama’s every move and will lead to the temptation to criticize him at every opportunity. As I have said before, you will never see a personal attack on Obama’s intelligence, etc., as I believe in respect for the office, but I won’t say that I will not attack his policies if I don’t agree with them. I really hope that this doesn’t happen, though…..I really hope I can forgive and forget and keep an open mind on Obama. But I can tell you that there are a lot of conservative people out there that will not do so. They will give Obama the same treatment as Bush has received over the past eight years. I just don’t see the ending of partisanship that the Democratic leaders are declaring. If anything, I see it getting worse. I could be wrong and hope that I am and will readily admit it if I am. But I still think that if Obama struggles early and/or goes back on any of his campaign promises, it’s going to get ugly. If/when this happens, all I can say is that I hope all the Bush/Republican haters had fun bashing over the last eight years because you are about to reap what you have sown. It’ll be your turn to see how it feels.

It is totally disrespectful to publicly bad mouth your president. While I don’t agree with everything Bush has done during his 8 years, he has done his best. I don’t like Obama. I disagree with most of what he has had to bring to the table and feel that many voted him in on the sole reason of him being black. While I disagree with him and as the years go by and he does not do what he has said he will do, you will NEVER see me with a sticker on my car that says “Buck Obama”. You should respect your president. PERIOD!!

I agree Gman. If the same things that are said about Bush were said about Obama you would be beat down by the media. Crafty Momma I also agree with the fact that you must respect the office of president. As an American I hope Obama does well he is the head of our team liek him or not. I will use my right to voice my opinion when I do not agree with him, but I will not cut him down.
