The Big One-Six

Yep, Big D is sixteen years of age today.  Good Lord, where has the time gone?  He was only five when Crafty Momma and I met…..a little guy full of energy and mischief.  Now here he is a sophomore in high school and ready to get a job and get that first car and get out there on the road to freedom.  Man, it seems like yesterday I was sixteen myself.  Well, we’ve been through lots of changes and Big D has always rolled with them and adjusted well when we moved around there for awhile and kept making him change schools.  He’s always made friends easily and seems like he knows everyone everywhere we go.  I’ll admit that I’m pretty tough on him.  He’s a really great kid, but I’m still tough on him.  I know he thinks I’m an asshole, but I just know that adulthood is right around the corner and I want him to be at least a little bit prepared for what he’s in for.  I know he probably doesn’t believe it, but I love him as much as I love my girls and I’m extremely proud of him.  We’re taking him and a few friends to Hooters tonight to scarf on the “all-you can eat wings night” and ogle the Hooters girls.  One of his friends was disappointed that we would be going with them because he claimed he was going to “pick up one of the hot Hooters girls”.  I would love to see him try.

Anyway, here’s wishing a Happy Birthday to you, Big D.  Enjoy it!
