Craptastic Football Weekend

What a horrible weekend for all my football teams….or at least the real life ones.  On Saturday, I watched three quarters of the UT vs. Florida game and then had to turn it off in disgust.  I won’t do like Kenny Chesney and turn to the dark side, but I will say that I am 100% convinced that UT will never return to being the national power it once was while Phillip Fulmer is head coach.  It’s been almost 10 years since their last National Championship and I believe it has also been that long since they even won an SEC Championship…..this despite having a top-10 recruiting class year after year.  Yet they consistently lose to the Floridas, the Auburns, and the LSUs of the SEC.  I think they are in for a few more losses this year (Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina) and then I’ll be curious to see what happens, as I do not think I am the only one who is losing my patience with them.  I’ll continue to follow their progress, but I won’t waste anymore of my precious time watching the games on TV.  MTSU also lost to LSU this week, 44-0, but who didn’t see that one coming?  I am still proud of them for hanging in there with Louisville a couple of games ago and hope they have more success ahead in Sun Belt Conference play.

Then, on Sunday, the Titans game was an exciting one, but ultimately things just didn’t go their way.  I am proud of them for giving the Colts all they wanted, but just wish they could have found a way to pull it out in the end.  I still think that if they can continue to play this way all year, they will be able to get into the playoffs at the end of the year.  Vince Young just has to continue to improve, the running backs need to continue what they are doing and even step it up a notch or two, and the wide receivers definitely need to step it up BIG TIME.  I do know that the next time I watch the Titans play on CBS, if Dan Dierdorf is commentating, I will be muting the TV and turning on the Titans Radio Network.  Dierdorf is probably the worst football commentator there is.  I think he has a major crush on Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison after watching the game on Sunday.  Also, he referred to Kyle Vanden Bosch as “Vanden Busch” throughout most of the game until someone obviously corrected him in the booth around the middle of the third quarter.  I didn’t agree with his praise for the refs on the Vince Young “taunting” penalty, either.  There were three refs in the area and I know that at least two of them saw the entire incident……including the Colts player shoving his arm into Vince’s shoulder, provoking him into tossing the ball at him.  I thought they should have called off-setting personal foul penalties, but winning teams do seem to always get the calls in sports.

At least I am doing well in fantasy football.  I outscored my opponent by almost 40 in my ESPN league with Brian Westbrook still left to play for me and the Eagles defense left to play for him, so I should be 2-0 after tonight.  In my Yahoo league, I have to hope that Reggie Brown doesn’t go for more than 50 yards receiving or score a touchdown and I will be 2-0 there as well.  While I am on the subject, I’d like to just say that I can’t believe that Yahoo Sports is the #1 fantasy football site when they make you pay to have your players’ stats updated in real time…..I have to wait until the next day for my players’ stats to show up if I don’t want to pay $9.95 each year for real time stats.  ESPN gives you this for free.  I will be going all ESPN after this year, I think.
